Call For Submissions for But You Don’t LOOK Sick: Battles we fight with invisible illness – an Anthology

braveandrecklessblog's avatarIndie Blu(e) Publishing

Indie Blu(e), the publisher of We Will Not Be Silenced, is now accepting submissions for an anthology of writers and artists who live with a chronic but invisible illness, or who care for someone else who does. The focus of this anthology is revealing the honest experience of living with invisible illness. We want it all: your humor, anger, grief, your survival stories, coping strategies, and your journey to carve out a new life after such a life-changing diagnosis (if you are lucky enough to get one!). We know so many artists who struggle with chronic illnesses that are poorly understood and we believe that your creative expressions can enlighten, connect, support, and heal.

All interested writers and artists can submit up to three pieces of creative work. Submissions can include Poetry, Prose, Essay, Short Fiction, and/or original Artwork. Pieces of writing should be limited in length (under 1,000 words.)…

The Way Pollack Paints Hope

Thank  you for showing up at the venue from where the gambler tosses all they have
onto a table set on a busy street.
Thank you for putting on display a beating heart pulsing with angel’s fingers on that dirty boulevard.
The rose now a beloved queen to a lost traveling soul aches for a few moments of respite before the end.
Thank you for tossing laughter as a hopeful crowd tosses rice at the bride’s feet when the rain will inevitably wash the marble clean.
Thank you for spinning from the air a gentle reminder that all is salvageable.

bowing out

the electricity is shut
and gone forever.
the eyelid dried out;
no more light will filter.
and the laughter lost
in a cave far down from here.

time was not enough dowry
to change the unchangeable.
i must be content with
having failed.

i, with no wealth of any
particular blue bloodline
could not offer you
anything other than
what God saw fit.

in the chasm
of the voices, it does
not really matter.
don’t employ any foreboding
on dejected smiles.

El mar se divierte entre tus poros

Radiante entras a sus aguas

Vapores de gloria irradias

Mucho más que un sol latente

Fuerza incansable

Sinónimo de lucha

Alma de esperanza

Tú puedes salvar al mundo

La luna te mira desde la noche

Las estrellas decoran el cielo

Tú iluminas la tierra

Eres ambas, realidad y quimera

Pasión eterna

Libertad plena

Lucha interna

Amor sincero

La tierra te recoge en su manto

Eres mucho más que la flor que nace

Eres la esencia del campo

Eres la incansable montaña

Eres La Luz perpetua que ciega al día

Fuerza incansable

Guerrera invencible

Sigue fuerte

Deja que tu esencia perdure siempre…

i wear my sin like a diamond

i wear my sin like a diamond

please forgive me Son of Man

my soul is running away from me

my spirit has leapt off and is far far away

i wear my sin like a diamond

forgive me

the maggot in the wound brings clarity

at times

frail in discontentment

the argument is lost

i wore my sin like a diamond

as You hung by Your bones

against the cross

the die is in my pocket

my life the corner

where it rolled

i wear my sin like a diamond

my spear in my side

too close to close

forgive me Father

in words that are so true

i roll and roll

the eyes of snakes

i wear my sin like a diamond

Cain and the Trash Can

i think you are
wrong to stand in my
way. you seek to
destroy all that
is left in my brain.

i did kill a man
with blows from my hand.
fiercely to his bones
i ploughed.

i ripped out his
soul and threw it away
in a tin not too much
unlike you. i own this
nirvana of concrete and pain.

i watch all the sinners and i watch
all the saints on my
circadian treks. i am not lonely
in spite of my face for look
to my right there is my race.

unbeknown to them yet though
here i stand. they are nearing
the end of the bind.

soon i will
usher them to this abysmal entry.

where your soul goes

and the killing continues with the will
of their hand.
