mb was born and raised in urban Los Angeles and is a Gen X’er who chronicles and scrawls about the art form of living in the Angelino metropolitan environment. these offerings are inspired by the mental health crisis in the city, everyday observations, and human nature interjected with fiction based on non-fictional events.
mb personally battles depression and anxiety, but utilizes writing and art to self-regulate. this blog was started as a self-promise to start writing and painting again after being AWOL from the process for several years. mb feels most alive when in old spaces, museums, book stores, learning about the 30’s and 40’s, old movie houses, historic hotels, all the speak-easys in the city, the Beats, all folks who go against the grain (for the good of humanity and liberation of the mind, heart, spirit and soul), spirituality, and the world in general.
people’s causes that are of import to mb are the folks living in the streets, kids, the elderly, veterans, animals and freedom in life in general. tyranny, bullying and taking advantage of defenseless life are things that mb has no tolerance for.
mb works in social services in the hopes of supporting those who struggle with mental illness or are in need of access to help. personal (in)famous heroes include, Patti Smith, Billie Holiday, Frida Kahlo, Josephine Baker, Harriet Tubman, Nina Simone, Charles Bukowski, Lou Reed, both Williams’ Shakespeare and Burroughs, Dr. Hawking, Abe Lincoln, John Waters, both Leonards’ Bruce and Cohen, and all the people who the Son of Man was criticized for trying to save.
Please feel free to write to me at mbrazfieldm@gmail.com. I’m an untrained writer and would love to hear from other writers and artists. Thanks everyone for coming along on the journey. Love, peace and blessings from LA.
